A discontinuous decatizing machine sets fabric through wrapped-cylinder batch processing — steam penetration followed by a cold-air draw. It turns the temporary lustre and flatness from pressing and pre-shrinking into a set that survives the full garment-making process. QL's discontinuous decatizing machine WPF-JXZN-MAX sits at the tail end of the dry-finishing chain, a required step on the worsted, woollen and wool-blend knit process routes.
Where this machine sits in the line, and what comes before and after
The batch decatizing machine WPF-JXZN-MAX is the finishing step at the tail end of the dry-finishing chain, turning what earlier stages achieved into something lasting. Before it, the piece runs across a fabric polishing machine for an initial lustre and smoothness, then through a steam pre-shrinking machine — chain-type or net-belt-type — to take out residual shrinkage, before entering discontinuous decatizing on this machine; after it comes a final relaxation steaming stage, dust collection, final inspection, and plaiting and packing.
What it changes in the fabric, top or yarn: handle, dimensional stability, lustre, cleanliness
The WPF-JXZN-MAX does not add a new finish; it decides how long the finish already applied will last. The lustre and smoothness from pressing are only a temporary set, partly released by steam and fully released by water; discontinuous decatizing wraps the piece with a wrapper cloth around a cylinder, saturates it with steam, then draws cold air through it — the fibre's cross-links reform on cooling, fixing the earlier effect in place. A larger cylinder diameter also keeps each wrap thinner for the same piece length, so head and tail see closer to the same steam exposure and the gap between them narrows. Steam reaching the full width evenly helps reduce side-to-side shade variation too. The result is a fuller handle and steadier dimensions. There is no independent evidence on cleanliness for this machine — ask QL for further detail if this matters to you.
Why this machine is necessary: what happens without it, or with another method
Skip decatizing, and the lustre and flatness from pressing and pre-shrinking stay temporary — the fabric reverts once it meets water or heat downstream. Conventional discontinuous decatizing is also limited by cylinder diameter: a smaller cylinder means a thicker batch and uneven head-to-tail steam penetration, and the standard remedy is to reverse the piece and steam it a second time, an extra pass; the WPF-JXZN-MAX runs a larger cylinder, keeping the batch thinner for the same length and narrowing that head-to-tail gap, so a second pass is needed less often. Where a light finish and high throughput matter more — common on synthetic fabrics — QL's continuous decatizing machine WPF-LXZN is the other route; where the goal is a deeper set than atmospheric discontinuous decatizing can give, the continuous-pressure decatizing machine WPF-LXZN-P is a step further up. The choice comes down to set depth versus line throughput first, then fibre content.
Setting the parameters: temperature, tension, speed, time
The WPF-JXZN-MAX runs at an operating speed of 50 m/min with a wrapper loading capacity of 500–1,000 m, and a servo-driven main drive that calculates wrapper tension automatically rather than by manual setting — these are machine capability figures, not a process recipe. Recipes are stored and recalled through the touchscreen and PLC control, so a change of fabric construction means calling up the matching record, not running one setting for everything. Steam temperature, dwell time and other process-specific parameters are determined by trial on each fabric construction — ask QL for the process reference table.
The questions customers ask most
- What causes shade variation between the left, centre and right of the cloth?
- Where does end-to-end variation in a piece come from, and why does a large cylinder solve it?
- Can worsted, woollen, silk and man-made fibres all run here without fibre damage?
- Does the wrapper cloth on a discontinuous decatizing machine need frequent replacement and maintenance?
- Are a discontinuous (large-drum) decatizing machine and an autoclave/KD decatizing machine the same thing — can one replace the other?
Which process routes it appears on
The discontinuous decatizing machine WPF-JXZN-MAX appears on five process routes — Worsted finishing, top-dyed route; Worsted finishing, piece-dyed route; Woollen finishing, stock-dyed route; Woollen finishing, piece-dyed route; and Wool and blend knitted fabric route — a required step on all five.
