UZWOOLENTEX, Uzbekistan: a whole finishing floor, planned by us

A worsted mill in the Fergana Valley. We drew the process route and the floor plan for its wet and dry finishing, and built most of the machines on it.

The brief

UZWOOLENTEX weaves worsted and wool-blend cloth in Margilan, in Uzbekistan’s Fergana Valley: suiting, women’s wear and uniform fabric. The finishing area, where the cloth gets its handle, its stability and its lustre, was left to us.

We worked out the process route for their fabrics, drew the floor plan for the whole wet and dry finishing area, and supplied most of the machines on it. Our engineers installed them on site.

In 2019, O’zbekiston 24, Uzbekistan’s state television channel, filmed at the mill while that work was under way. The finishing machines in the report are ours.

What stands on the floor

We planned this finishing floor end to end, wet and dry: the process route for their fabrics first, then the machine at each station and where it stands. Every station on it is one we can build and deliver. Machine by machine, in the order the cloth travels:

Wet finishing

    Wash the cloth in rope form, taking out the oil and dirt it picks up in spinning and weaving.

    A CIMI scouring and milling machine from Italy, placed in the line to our layout. For this station we now build our own four-channel machine, WPF-4XS.

    04Crabbing

    Set the cloth in hot water under tension, so it holds its shape through everything that follows. These are our earlier generation. The current WPF-ZN goes further:

    • Single-bath reciprocation: the cloth travels back and forth between two cylinders in one liquor, so the whole piece gets one heat history, end to end and inside to outside
    • The wrapper carries the tension, not the fabric: zero elongation, so knitted wool can be crabbed as readily as woven
    • Entry scutching and centring: the cloth winds flat, with no white selvedge marks
    • A cooling trough at delivery fixes the set, and plaited stacks stay free of crease marks

Dry finishing

    Gives the dry cloth an even, fine moisture before pressing and steaming, so it responds evenly across the width.

    Lays the surface fibres in one direction and clears loose fibre and dust. For this station we now build WPF-SM, a vertical brushing machine, with a steam box as an option.

    Squares up bowed or skewed weft before the cloth is pressed, so stripes and checks run true.

The nameplates read SIMACHINE: in 2019 we traded as Wuxi Xingweixing Machinery. We have been Wuxi Qianli Machinery since 2020.
