Tops processing is everything done to combed wool tops before spinning: wool tops backwashing after dyeing, shrink-resist treatment for machine-washable wool, Vigoureux printing for melange, and the splicing, coiling and ball-winding around them. Mills also call it tops processing equipment or a tops finishing line.
